When was the last school levy for new operating money passed?
The last operating levy was passed by voters in 1998.
The District was on the ballot four years ago for additional money to fund the Strategic Plan, but that levy did NOT pass. The current OPERATING LEVY is developed to meet the district’s budgetary needs for the next three years. It will allow the district to maintain programs and services already in place at Highland Schools.
What’s happened since then?
Since the last new operating levy passed in 1998, Highland Local School District has maintained a tradition of excellence.
- We have maintained an "Excellent" rating by the State Department of Education for the past 10 years and for the last two years we have been recognized as "Excellent with Distinction."
- Highland High School was ranked among the best high schools in America by U.S. News & World Report.
- The District is consistently recognized by both the State Auditor and the Government Finance Officers Association for “Excellence in Financial Reporting.”
- We built, opened and operated a new, state-of-the-art high school.
- We expanded our curriculum to meet the diverse needs of all our students.
- We have increased student enrollment by 1,000 students.
